For a minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Dato' Nazri to describe those leaders advocating for "Ketuanan Melayu" or "Malay Supremacy" as having cow dung in their head was certainly unprecedented. The outburst was indeed hard hitting, provocative and inflammatory. He further criticised these extremists for not knowing what they were uttering about.
The term Malay Supremacy refers to the head of states - the sultans in particular. By fighting for Malay Supremacy that they are actually and indirecty fighting to perpetuate the status quo of the Malay Rulers of certain states in the country.
The New Economy Policy which was aimed at elevating the status of the Malays and Bumiputras back fired. The policy was supposed to eradicate the general poverty among the poor and to ensure equitable distribution of wealth among the people of Malaysia, but somehow unfortunately though after three decades, the Malays still remain backward. It benefited only the handful of UMNO sycophantic cronies.
After the last general election, UMNO and BN undertook to reassess the impact of the NEP, identify the weaknesses and formulate a new policy to please the masses. They came out with the New Economic Model (NEM) which is aimed at transforming the country into a high income economy such that the average income of the general factory worker may be raised from RM700.00 as high as RM3000.00 per month or RM36,000.00 per annum.
To raise the average income of the worker from RM700.00 to RM3000.00 per month is not going to be an easy task. How is the Government going to increase the income level if she is not making an effort to raise the standard of college and university education? Is the Government going to continue her free distribution of the national resources to these UMNOputras?
The manufacturing processes have to be replaced by modern and better machineries that are capable of increasing productive capacities. With high technological advancement, we may attain this goal.
Perhaps we may need to pull bigoted guys like Ibrahim Ali behind bars under the ISA, otherwise we will never be able to achieve the NEM objectives.
Success in human development and national advancement depends on the hardwork of every citizen where wealth, skills and knowledge acquisition is concerned. Spoonfeeding has proven to be a failure during the past three decades. To move forward, the country must face reality of the day. UMNO cannot hijack the country resources for the Malays only through the gradual islamisation process.
We need a Government of integrity that is founded on competence, accountability and transparency in managing the country incorruptibily, fairly and efficiently.
