Malaysia is a rich country naturally endowed with various natural resources like rubber, oil-palm, timber, tin, iron and petroleum. At the time of writing, its GDP stands at or around RM600 bn.
The country is a multi-cultural, racial, religious and linguistic country. The population hovers around 28 million comprising the Malays, Chinese, Indians, Dayaks, Bajaus, Kadazans and the Orang Asli (Aborigines).
Malaya (before merger) obtained independence from Britain on 31 August 1957. In1965, it merged with Singapore, Sabah and Sarawak to form Malaysia. Singapore left the merger in 1968 due to irreconcilable difference between the political leaders in Singapore and Peninsular Malaysia.
The people used to interact freely regardless of race and religion before the 70's. Inter-racial relationship took a bad turn thereafter because of the affirmative discriminatory socio-economic policies, known as the New Economic Policy. It features sound objectives but due to slanted and unfair implementation, race relations took a dive at all levels of the socio-economic sectors.
Having to deal with racial problems is bad enough but with bigoted religious polarisation in schools, civil service and judiciary, the schism became even wider and wider among the several races of the country.
Of late, economic development of the country is marred by corruption, money-laundering and fraudulent trade documentation as reported by the Global Financial Integrity(GPI). In 2014, Malaysia ranked 52nd in the Corruption Perception Index as reported by the Transparency International Malaysia.
GFI reported that Malaysia laundered RM171.11bn in 2012 and between the period 2003-2012, the total illicit efflux of funds from the country approximated to USD1.38 trillion. This works out on the average of about RM100 bn which was being laundered annually representing about 16.7% the country's GDP. Besides, reportedly, taking into consideration the debts and all the financial gurantees granted to GLCs, the Debt:GDP ratio has surpassed the 80% mark which is about 25% above the danger level.
The Sun of 16 Dec 2014 reported that 205 Federal Government Projects costing in total RM7.0 bn were behind schedule while 82 projects totalling RM2.2 bn are deemed or regarded as "ailing projects".
Of late, the country is saddled by the heavy losses sustained by the national Malaysian Airline which has to be bailed out by Kazanah which pumped in RM6.0 bn in an effort to revive the corporation.
Again there was reported the 1MDB project which is steeped with heavy borrowings at high interest rate. It is allegedly saddled with losses amounting to RM41.2 bn.
Faced with the fast decreasing price of crude to below US60/- per barrel, the depreciation of the Ringgit, increase in prices of gasoline and diesel, hiked up assessment rate and the ominous enforcement of GST on 01 April 2015, the economy looks quite dismal given the fact that more than 80% of the work force are earning below the poverty threshold of RM30,000/- per annum.
It has been estimated there are now about 9 million foreign workers in the country; of which 3 million are legal while the 6 million are illegal. These latter workers are displacing locals from employment in the plantation, manufacturing, construction sectors and petty trades.
In my opinion and assessment, serious actions have to be taken by the ruling government. Corruption has to be curtailed if not substantially mitigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
The Central Bank will have to tighten the control of illicit funds flowing out of the country. Prudent spending on socio-economic projects will have to be strictly exercised and monitored. In addition, attention must be given to minimise documentation frauds. The Finance Ministry will have to ensure that public expenditure should not exceed revenue. Tightening of belt is imperative if the country is to be turned around.
Unless the Governement of the day take serious remedial actions, the economic situation of the country is dismal and not too encouraging.

The Country's Economy is in a Shamble
Malaysia was regarded once as a land of milk and honey. But, it is now in a state of shamble. The situation does not happen just now. The rot has in fact been going on ever since the affirmative National Economic Policy (NEP) was put into operation in 1970 following the racial riot that took place on May 13, 1969.
The NEP was mooted by the National Consultative Council, NEC, comprising in the main appointees of the Alliance Government. The NEC was in fact the de facto governing body of the country during the period when parliament was suspended. It was more of a pseudo- or semi-military rule.
The said policy was aimed at:
1) Eradicating poverty; and.
2) Eliminate identification of race with occupation of the people.
The Policy was noble but the implemenation was very much slanted to favour one particular race, the Bumiputra - that is, the prince of the land which in particular include the Malays and the indigenous people of Malaysia. The backwardness of the Malays and Bumiputra was taken as an excuse for the slanted implementation of the NEP.
In an effort to help bring about changes to the status of the bumiputras, various untoward policies were formulated to the exclusion of the non-bumiputras which comprise all the Chinese, Indians and Eurasians etc who are in fact citizens of the country. This latter group constitutes then about 40% of the national population. This percentage was reduced through induced conversion and recruitment and nauralisation of foreign muslim workers from neighbourly countries. Foreign workers have been reported to exceed more than 10% of the country's population of 28 million.
Consistent with the NEP, many racially and socio-economic policies were put in place to "elevate or lift" the status of the Bumiputras. As such, on the corporate front, 30% of the equity shall be reserved and allotted for the Bumiputras. So is employment which must reflect 30% Bumiputras.
Employment in the civil service was most noticeable - for many years majority of Malays and or Bumiputras were taken into the civil service; promotion of non-bumiputras was held in abeyance such that eventually all top positions were replaced and helmed by Malays and or Bumiputras. Entry into universities for non-Bumiputras was strictly monitored; as a result, thousands who were qualified were not admitted into courses of their choices such as medicine, engineering, accountancy and law in the public universities.
Scholarships were rarely awarded to the non-Bumiputras. A serious constraint was and still is the pre-condition that the scholarship applicant must first secure a place in the university before his application is considered. If at all, they are offered scholarships, they must be the straight A students
On the governance side, the Barisan Nasional have been ruling the country since attaining independence of Malaya in 1957 and formation of Malaysia in 1963. But little did the masses realise or know that over the years - more than half a century - the BN Government had been resorting to and engaged in a lot of undersirable actions to stay in power. Money politics, vote-purchasing and gerry-mandering were blatantly perpetrated in the last two General Elections by BN Government to stay in power.
Power somehow has tended to the point of obsessive avarice. Billions had been siphoned out of the country during the past 15 years as reported by the GFI. The figure was staggering and mind-boggling. It exceeded USD1.30 trillion. Translated into local currency, money laundered approximated to slightly more than RM100.0 billion per annum. For a small economy like Malaysia, this huge sum of money if ploughed backed into the country for socio-economic development would have benefitted very significantly the people of Malaysia.
If the political leaders really had the interest and welfare of the people at heart, Malaysia would be like Singapore - an educated populace, high averaged income, a strong, clean and stable economy, with a strong currency, modern infra-structural amenities, unity and racial harmony among the multi-racial, multi-cultural and multi-lingual society. At the time of writing, the Malaysian Rinnggit has depreciated to almost RM2.80 to a SD1.00 and RM4.10 to a USD1.00.
In Singapore, corruption is strictly prohibited and anyone caught committing such an offence will be severely dealt with regardless of the background of the perpetrator.
Corruption is prevalent in Malaysia. It pervades all sectors and levels of the society so much that it has almost become a way of life. Politicians and prospective politicians are attracted to politics for this very reason; that is, to enrich themselves fast through graft and even fraudulent means.
A case in point is the recent revelation of the wheel and deal of the State Sovereign Company, infamously known and referred to as 1 MDB which will be the subject of the next post.

The Desparate Spinner
The date of 13th General Election has been changed many times and the public is speculating when it will take place. Some say it can be anytime after the Hari Raya while some speculate that it will take place early next year.
Looking at the situation, the BN seems to be in a state of great desparation. The BN election strategy in my view is rather incohesive and is confusing the public. This may reflect badly on the BN leadership. All that we read in the newspapers these days is nothing but money politics. Billions have been spent on various mega projects and overseas investments - an easy way of money laundering. Worse of all using the EPF - workers' hard earned savings - for these purposes.
Reportsare rife that the BN Government had borrowed no less than 60% of the EPF Fund thus far. As to how much the Government has paid back the loan, that remains for the time being a secret.
I am quite surprised that the MTUC, the champion for the working class, has no voice nor representa-tion in the Investment Board of EPF! It is high time that the EPF Act be amended to allow a trade union respresentative knowledgeable in economics or financial management to be appointed as a member of the Investment Board. This to prevent workers' savings from being squandered.
The BN aims to win the 13th GE at all costs as announced by the UMNO leadership. As such they are spending the tax-payers money unconscionably to the point of recklessness. The amount of money poured out the last 12 months of the treasury runs into billions; let alone the billions of Ringgit that had been laundered by corrupt politicians throughout the country.
For the past 15 years or so, the country has been running in great deficit. The amount of money laundered out of the country far exceeds the annually created wealth as reflected in the GDP. It has been reported that close to RM100 billion have been taken out of the country illegally each year. Basing upon a projected growth of 5% GDP, it will only come to about RM30 billion. Hence, the country suffers from an annual deficit of RM70 billion. Intrapolating back 15 years, the total amount so laundered may well exceed RM1.0 trillion.
This illicit out-flow of Ringgit from the country has gone into the private overseas accounts of the leaders of BN and this efflux has a great impact on the national economy. As a result, it has been greatly distorted. Our money has been depreciating at a rate of not less than 5% per annum. Hence, goods are becoming more expensive and this is reflected in the spiral increase of inflation in the country.
Just imagine, a plate of "wan ton mee" in 1970 cost 30 cts. Today, the same plate costs RM4.50 - RM5.00. The increase is 1500% or an average increase of 35.6% per annum. The men in the streets are feeling the high cost of living.
But, the BN Government just ignores this plight while the central bank has not been performing its goal-keeping responsibility effectively.
What we are reading these days are nothing but mud-slinging news accusing the Pakatan Rakyat of this and that without realising that all the "shit" was created by the previous State BN Governments concerend. For instance, the Talam episode, the hill development in Penang, bailing out of failed GLCs, investing in overseas projects that do not directly benefit the Malaysian welfare. The Pakatan Rakyat have at least the past four yeasrs managed successfully to stem the tide of corruption; hence, their kitties are in the black.
What does not the Chua, Jr comment on the Scorpene, NCF etc cases where the commissions ran into hundreds of millions? Why does he not tell the UMNO leaders to stop all the failed GLCs and stop bailing them out? Why he keeps mummed over the corrupt BN Minister in Sabah and Sarawak? Why does he not comment or criticise the inefficiency of Bank Negara? Why does he not comment on the ill impact of privatisation of utilities on the men in the streets? All these utilities are now in the hands of the UMNO cronies and I can foresee big problems facing the country in the future. Why doe he not suggest to deprivatise all the privatised corporations?
By spending money lavishly and aimlessly will not assuage the great disappointment and frustration of the rakyat. The rakyat wants to be treatedly fairly and with respect. They want be treated as citizens of the country and not as pendatangs. The Government must be fair in awarding business opportunities to all the qualified people of the land. They want to see a stop in all forms of corruption and that those culprits must be brought to book and if found guilty have their assets confiscated. MACC must be given full power to deal with such PEPs. Besides, they want to see a fairer Malaysian representation in the civil service at all levels.
The recent announcement to acquire the Battersea in London was most stunning. The project involves SP Setia Bhd, Sime Darby Bhd and EPF in the share equity ratio of 4:4:2. It has been resported that EPF is investing SP20.0 billion. The public would want to see that the two big GLCs equally pump in RM40 billion each. Sometime, I just wonder why involved EPF in such an investment. What if the investment goes bad? Then it is written off, right? This not a loan but an investment of which EPF is ignorant. This is just the same as the billion-ringgit investment of FELDA that turned bad in Canada. From loan to investment to total loss.
Efforts to allow the BN Government to acquire profitable companies of Malaysians using the tax payers or workers money must be stopped. This is most unfair. Getting into business without using one's capital. This is bad example. See the ugliness of privatised companies and the close connection of cronies, I wish the Pakatan Rakyat will stop this unholy practice. Believe you me, without the perennial injuction of money into GLCs, many if not most would have evaporated. Let me live long enough to witness this phenomenon.
When are we stopping this "BCNR" from plundering the national resources? It must be at the ballot box. So my friends, do what you have to do for the sake of our country, nation and people.

Bersih 3.0 Turned Awry
The demonstration organised and co-ordinated by the Bersih Organisation took place on Saturday, 28 April 2012 not only in and around the Dataran Merdeka (Independence Square), Kuala Lumpur but also in States and places overseas.
Reports from participants overseas came in from UK, Melbourne, Hong Kong, US to name a few.
By 2.00 pm on 284, a few hundred thousands people from all walks of life and ages converged from several roads to the said Dataran. The rally managed to attract as much as 500,000 in totality and they were from various townships in other States. Such was the solidarity.
It was indeed sad and rueful to note that all main roads leading to the city were blocked by the Police in the morning. The blockades caused massive traffic chaos and fumes among the people intending to zoom into the city doing their respective chores. Many including me were trapped on the roads for hours under the hot sun. Many cars stalled because of overheating. The situation turned very ugly.
Two incidents were reported - one the protesters overturned a patrol car which rammed and injured some protestors outside Sogo Departmental Stores in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and the other incident took place quite near to the Dataran where some protestors removed a few of the barricades which gave the Police the excuse to train the water cannons and fire the tear gas cannisters at the protestors who were peacefully assembled at Dataran.
Hell then broke loose when it was reported plain-clothed policemen wearing the yellow Bersih 3.0 T-shirt started to detain and assault by-standers and protestors of all ages. Many were taken to the police station and were subjected to inhuman treatment. Innocent bystanders were beaten up and kicked. The scene marked a black spot in the history of human development in Malaysia.
Now the Government is trying to justify her actions by trying to seet up an inquiry into the outbreak of unruliness. Opposition members were accused of hijacking the Bersih movement. What a sham!
Eventually, they will find some scapegoats and try to justify their wrong doing. It is time our political meatheads stop playing games with the people. The people will never be able to overthrow the government through the barrel of the guns but they can so so with their wisdom of their votes. Their votes at the GE 13 shall be their weapons which will decimate all these madness, incompetencies and empty vessels within the civil and uniformed services.

Nod for Lynas
The Parliamentary Select Committee that was set up to investigate the people's grievance over the setting up of the rare earth refinery plant in Gebeng, Kuantan, in my mind was yet another age-old way to deal with public objection.
The Committee might be described by the social activists and NGOs as just a group of unprepared appointed by the unwilling to do the unnecessary. Its 31 recommendations in favour of the project were not unexpected.
Malaysian leaders must grow up and not be influenced by people who do not have concern for the long term impact of radioactive emission of the rare earth waste on the people's health and well-being.
The investors from down-under have yet to provide a good reason why their project was rejected by their Government to be built and operate in Australia. The only sound reason that I can advance is that the Government cares for the welfare of its people and listen to them. Whereas our Government could not care two hoots for her people. She does not seem to learn from the history of what had happened to the people in Bukit Merah in Perak. The untold aftermath was silenced by the might of the corrupt state government.
The Star headlined Wednesday 20 June 2012 that the Parliamentary Select Committee has given its approval for a temporary licence to be given to the Aussie company to operate the plant in Gebeng. Does the Committee have the invested authority to grant approval or recommendation for the setting up of the plant? Star is putting words into the mouth of the PSC!
By arriving at the conclusion and making its recommendations public, has not the PSC committed a subjudicial action if not blunder prempting a fair hearing at the High Court on 12 July 2012? This sort of game had been played far too often.
What the PSC did appears to give the impression to the public at large that its decision has been pre-meditated. Is the Government afraid that the High Court may arrive at a verdict that may overturn her early decision to allow the Aussie Company to operate the project in Gebeng on a temporary or trial basis? What sort of eyewash decision is this? It is either go or no go.
The masses cannot tell the Government what to do. In this country, The Government is the Supremo who does what she thinks fit, She will tell you what to do but you are not expected to do what she does. What sort of Government is this? It is so much like all the Governments in the Middle-East countries whose greed, power-craziness and corruptedness have brought so much of turmoil and miseries to the people.
In my opnion, the rigmarole stinks of remiss, nonchalence and mal-practice.

Blue Identity Cards With Expiry Dates
Hell has broken lose in recent times. Blue identity cards meant for citizens of the country have been issued to aliens registered with the Government agency under its 6Ps Programme but with a slight difference in that the Expiry Dates are etched thereon. This will certainly have the effect of possibly enabling the holders to vote at the coming election. This is Greatest Deception of the Day!
What the NRIC Department has done is tantament to a treachery; if not a treasonous act in that it has betrayed the trust of the rakyat to have sold the country out by granting these Expiry Identity Cards (EIC) to thousands of these registered aliens.
In the backlog, there are still thousands of applicants pending for their citizenship application which have been continually rejected year after year because of certain typographical glitches appearing on their birth certificates and or citizenship certificates. These senior citizens' applications should be given preference and the priority over the 6Ps registrants since many of them had worked hard during their younger days and have in no uncertain terms contributed to income tax. The fact that their children have grown up in the country, educated and worked here testifly that they are eligible for citizenship of the country. What more tangible and verifiable proof does NRIC want?
The issuance of the EICs must be condemned and HRH YDP Agong must direct the ruling Government to rescind and outlaw this policy which is indeed anti-national.
The practice is not well received by the rakyat. The implementation of the EICs has been done very quietly until the news broke out and circulated throughout the cybersphere. The government controlled media is silent on this news break. See how discriminatory and abusive the ruling government is!
The Government is mummed over this blog. If she has any sense at all, this must be stopped altogether and right away . This is no way to delude the public. The election commission must be held responsible for the direct or indirect conception of this anti-social programme. I think the opposition party must work toward indicting the EC for not stopping this ridiculous deceptive means to be crept into the electoral system.
UMNO must be very very desperate but it must not try to embark on deception to cheat the public by trying to get into power through the back-door. The rakyat will now condone what it is doing.
What UMNO is doing affirms the adage, "Power corrupts, Absolute Power corrupts absolutely". The era is not for cheats, corrupt and incompetent politicians to be elected into the Parliament.
MPs of the future must have the intellect, qualifications and commitment to serve their fellowmen and the country. We want a multi-racial country that is free from any form of discrimination, deprivation of sorts and recrimination for doing the right thing in the interest of the community and the society at large. We want a free nation where the people can mix freely and where the best shall be awarded. We want to be progressive and become an industrialised nation where the people enjoy the fruits of their labour. As Malaysians we do not wish to be distinguished by their race or religion to which they subscribe and by which they abide.
The people shall reject UMNO for its deceits, corruptibility and imbecility in ruining and impoverishing the country at the expense of the population and its future generations. Delay and procrastination are the thiefs of time.
Inaction merely indicates the bankruptcy of the BN as a whole.

STUDENTS IN PEACEFUL ASSEMBLY ASSAULTED.
It is so disconcerting and
disappointing to learn that the students who protested at the Dataran Merdeka
were beaten up by the night riders and raiders in black with masks on at 2.30
am this morning and destroyed all the tents put up by the students to
demonstrate their noble message to persuade the UMNO/BN Government to accord
free tertiary education to all students accepted into the public universities.
The bad news is that the policemen who
were present in the vicinity did not lift a finger bad to assist. It gives the bad impression
that the raid had the knowledge and sanction of the Police.
The 100 or more students who participated in the demonstration
stood their ground firmly, refused to be provoked and retaliate against the
barbaric raid and assault mounted and descended on them by these gangsteristic
night raiders. My hat off to you students for your moral courage. Your peaceful
demonstration has spoken loud and clear.
The students have their reasons for
the demand seeing flagrant excesses of the corrupt politicians squandering
without conscience the resources of the
nation to the gradual but insidious socio-economic impoverishment and
degradation of the future children and generations of the rakyat.
What the UMNO leaders are doing are no different from those leaders in the Middle East countries. Their deplorable conduct has led to the Arab Spring. These leaders have traits in common – tyrannical, dictatorial, corrupt, merciless, selfish and arrogant. Malaysia cannot progress without these leaders around. Hence, they must face the wrath of the rakyat in the coming GE 13.
If the quota of RM100.0 billion is
retained and prevented from illicit exit from the country, the country will not
be so hard-pressed with so many social and economic ills arising from the
blatant corrupt propensity of the politicians. If this amount is utilized
properly for the commonwealth of the rakyat, this country need not have
problems with its education, health and housing programmes.. The rakyat need
not have to stay in match-boxed flatlets.
The public must condemn the barbaric
actions of these anti-social elements who are out to create fear and disorder
in the country. This gangsters were
probably the same guys who disrupt
conferences, public talks and protests.
This gives the Government to act otherwise against those who are doing
their best for the nation. This has to
stop. We cannot allow them to torch
places of worship and cause huru-hara and
hara-kiri in the country.
